GETTING TO ROME
By Plane
Rome has two airports:
- Leonardo da Vinci, located at Fiumicino, 20 miles from Rome city centre and
- Ciampino, 10 miles from downtown.
From Fiumicino ("Leonardo da Vinci" Airport) to downtown
Taxi:
In correspondence of the Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 of Fiumicino airport, a taxi service to Rome is available. The cost of the service should be around 40 euro, baggage included, for a maximum of four passengers, for all the destinations inside the Mura Aureliane which delimitate the central area of the city.
The cars for the taxi service of the City of Rome are white and can be recognized by the sign "TAXI" on the top and by the identifying license number on the doors, on the back and inside the car.
Train:
You can choose between two connections:
- A direct connection (without intermediate stops) with Termini railway station.
Time way: 30 minutes
Ticket price: € 11.00 (one way)
- The Sabina-Fiumicino line (FM1) which stops in some of the main Roman railway stations (Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense & Trastevere).
Time way (from Fiumicino Airport to Tiburtina Station): 45 minutes
Ticket price: € 5.50 (one way)

Tickets can be purchased at machines located inside domestic and international arrival halls and at the railway stations.
From Ciampino to downtown
Train:
The nearest rail station to “Giovan Battista Pastine” airport is Ciampino Città, connected to the airport by the buses Cotral/Schiaffini every 30 minutes. The travelling time is about 5 minutes.
Tickets cost 1 euro and are sold in the bus.
A light metro connects Ciampino railway station to Termini railway station and will take 15 min. approx.
Taxi:
At Ciampino airport, a taxi service is available. The taxi ride should cost around 35 euro, baggage included, for a maximum of four passengers, to all the destinations inside the Mura Aureliane which delimitate the central area of the city.
The price will be indicated by the taximeter on each taxi, to which the baggage fee shall be added. The cars for the taxi service of the City of Rome are white and can be recognized by the sign "TAXI" on the top and by the identifying licence number on the doors, on the back and inside the car.
In front of the airport exit, there is a limousine service, named "NCC" (rent with a driver), carried out by cars, usually blue or grey, to which are applied different fees that depend on the destination..
Bus:
Rome Ciampino Airport can be reached via different bus routes.
Daily connections between the airport and Termini railway station are guaranteed by the bus services operated by ATRAL, COTRAL, SIT and TERRAVISION. The buses are parked in dedicated bus bays opposite International Departures.

By Train
Eurostar and AV (high speed) trains connect Rome with a wide range of European cities. Rome’s central railway station, Termini, is conveniently located in the heart of the city.

By Car
Through Italy’s main motorway, the Autostrada del Sole (A1), which runs from the North to the South of the peninsula, Rome is well connected with several European countries.
MOVING AROUND THE CITY
Underground and buses
In Rome there is an underground railway system and a comprehensive network of over 200 bus routes which connect all the different parts of the city.
The underground has two lines, A and B, which cross at Termini station. Trains run approximately every 7-10 minutes, from 5:30 am until 11:30 pm every day (until 1:30am on Fridays and Saturdays).
- Line A
begins near the Vatican City, crosses the centre of the city (Piazza Barberini, Via Veneto, Spanish steps, Opera Theatre and Palazzo delle Esposizioni) and goes to Anagnina (next to Tor Vergata University).
- Line B
begins in the eastern outskirts of Rome, crosses the centre of the city (Circo Massimo, Colosseum) and ends in EUR.
Buses run from 5:30 am until midnight but there are 20 night lines too. In the effort to minimize pollution, in the historic centre, transportation is provided by electric buses.
Tickets for buses and metro can be purchased from tobacco shops, news-stands, bars or automatic machines at metro stations and major bus stops. Costs are:
