  • Tour reservations will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. The number of participants for each tour is limited and early booking is advisable. Availability for on-site reservations cannot be guaranteed.
     
  • Tour programmes may be modified due to last-minute logistical issues. Tours will be cancelled if a minimum of 25 participants is not achieved without any liability other than refund of the tour cost. Rates may increase due to changes in cost of the entrance tickets or government taxes. Should this be the case participants will be informed by mail and the web-site information will be updated.
     
  • Reservations of tours should be made by completing the relevant section on the registration form and forwarding the relevant full payment. Tickets will be given to participants upon registration.
     
  • Each tour includes: English-speaking guide, tour escort, entrance tickets and, where applicable, transportation. Full day tours include lunch.

    Note: The entrance to churches requires appropriate attire (no shorts, miniskirts or uncovered shoulders). It is also recommended to wear comfortable shoes for all excursions.

    Tours will depart and finish next to a metro stop to allow participants to reach the meeting point easily.
    Where necessary, transportation from the metro stop to the site of the visit will be provided by coach.

Visit to the 17th century masterpieces of Gianlorenzo Bernini, Francesco Borromini and Pietro da Cortona:

  • Piazza di Spagna, with Trinità dei Monti steps;
  • Fontana di Trevi, the fountain whose legend says that whoever throws a coin there, will someday come back to Rome. 
  • Pantheon, the Roman temple built under Emperor Augusto, restored by emperor Adriano and turned into a church in 604 AD. 
  • San Luigi dei Francesi, the church that hosts three canvases by Caravaggio and frescoes by Domenichino; 
  • Piazza Navona, with its unique elliptical plan and the spectacular Fountain of “The Rivers”.

 

Discovering Trastevere

The visit starts from the river Tiber, namely from the Isola Tiberina, the original landing place for the city and its centre. Its characteristic shape and the legend of its foundation are just two of its attractions that fascinate visitors. Once on the right bank of the river, the walk continues in the heart of Trastevere, one of the city’s most charming areas. The first stops are for visiting the medieval church of San Benedetto in Piscinula, built on a Roman house owned by the family of St. Benedict and the church of Santa Cecilia. The itinerary ends in Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the most beautiful of the city dominated by the homonymous church, the first to be dedicated to the Virgin.

Imperial Rome and Capitoline Museums

Walk through the ancient ruins of Rome up to the Colosseum. The visit starts on the Capitoline Hill, jewel of Renaissance architecture designed by Michelangelo as a natural terrace overlooking the Forum.

Visit to the Musei Capitolini which consists of two architectural masterpieces by Michelangelo (Palazzo Nuovo and Palazzo dei Conservatori), home to the most ancient collection of sculptures in the world, as well as to a series of paintings by Veronese, Guercino, Tintoretto, Rubens, Caravaggio, Van Dyck and Tiziano and to the original equestrian statue of Marco Aurelio, recently restored.

 

Light Lunch

 

The tour continues along the Via Sacra with its paving dating back to the imperial age, temples and basilicas: a unique setting that embraces over ten centuries of Roman history from the impressive markets and the triumphal column of the emperor Trajan to the Roman Forum, the former political, economical and religious centre of Ancient Rome. The tour will end with the visit to the Colosseum, Rome's greatest amphitheatre.

The Vatican Museums contain masterpieces of painting, sculpture and other works of art collected by the popes through the centuries. As the popes were among the first sovereigns who opened the art collections of their palaces to the public thus promoting knowledge of art history and culture, the Museum includes several monumental works of art, such as:

  • the Sistine Chapel which takes the name of its founder Pope Sixtus IV and where it is possible to admire one of the highest masterpieces or art: the Genesis and the Last Judgment by Michelangelo, which have been recently restored and recovered their original splendor.
  • the Raphael Rooms and Loggia famous for their frescoes, painted by Raphael and his workshop
  • the Borgia Apartment where Pope Alexander VI lived until his death 
  • the Pinacoteca, or Picture Gallery, situated in a building that dates back to 1932 and was designed by the architect Beltrami. 


 

 


Glamour of the Renaissance

A pleasant promenade in Rome’s typical Renaissance district.

  • Campo dei Fiori, a picturesque square surrounded by medieval and renaissance small buildings; one of the places where death sentences were executed. Giordano Bruno, whose statue stands in the middle of the square, was killed here.
  • Piazza Farnese and Farnese Palace commissioned by Pope Paolo III and accomplished, among others, by Michelangelo. The palace overlooks, with its huge size, the beautiful square and its fountains.
  • Piazza Capo di Ferro and Palazzo Spada, the palace built at the expense of Cardinal Girolamo Capo di Ferro in 1540 and then bought by Cardinal Spada who commissioned the restoration to Borromini.
  • Via Giulia, the first Renaissance street created to slice through Rome’s medieval alleys, now lined with delightful antique shops and a fascinating array of churches and patrician palaces.
  • Via della Lungara and Villa Farnesina, a renaissance suburban villa displaying some beautiful examples of Renaissance painting.

Cooking lesson

A hands-on experience of Italy's Cooking Culture that will teach participants to make an Italian meal such as “pasta” or “pizza” from the finest local fresh ingredients. You will learn about the ingredients and the traditions surrounding the dish, as well as the food presentation and selection of appropriate wines. Emphasis will be placed on how food relates to the Mediterranean lifestyle and culture. Flavours and colours resulting from a combination of imagination, curiosity and passion for food together with the opportunity to learn to cook seeing how to do it into practice in a friendly and informal environment.

The Villa, built during the first half of the 2nd Century B.C. on 120 hectares of park and gardens, is more than an archaeological site.

Despite its ruins, Villa Adriana is a living place where hundreds of visitors pass through every day, where restorations and archaeological excavations have never been interrupted. Hadrian brought here his beautiful memories from the most far-away lands and built it with materials gathered from all the regions of the Empire.

Its Canopus is the most fascinating place in the Villa and was for a long time believed to be an evocation of the Egyptian town of Canopus linked to Alexandria by a canal from the Nile.

Walk along Via del Corso and its cross-roads, centre of fashion shopping in Rome, and stop for another hint of culture in the atmosphere of happy hour.
Enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers in an intimate environment created by unique art works that provide the perfect backdrop for conversation. The Canova-Tadolini Museum at Via del Babuino allows to have an insight into how master sculptors really worked, as it is not a “museum display", but rather the actual atelier or workshop that was used and lived in by Antonio Canova and then by four generations of the Roman Tadolini dynasty of stone and metal sculptors.

A tour to explore the heart of the Eternal city at your own pace. The itinerary gives passengers a unique, spectacular view of the city passing close by the main archaeological sites and monuments. The tickets are valid for 24 hours from the first use. The buses are equipped with multilingual commentary devices.
